Cheyenne’s Sunshine (AKA Sunshine) is a 15.3hh, 4 yr
old, Bay Tobiano, Molly Mule, with lots of Chrome! She
is out of a registered TWHBEA mare named Cheyenne’s
Dancer, and by a gaited Jack named Moonshiner. Sunshine
is registered with the American Mule Association. A
little history on Sunshine… She was born and raised in
South Eastern Kentucky. Her mother died 10 hours after
her birth and from then on Sunshine was raised on a
bottle, which is where she gained her trust and her love
for people. We bought Sunshine in winter of 2007 with
plans to sell her in early 2008. While going on a lot
of trail rides, several camping trips and weekend
excursions during the winter of 2007, Jason’s little boy
Jacob who is 2 ˝ years old got very attached to
Sunshine. So much to the point that Jacob would not
trail ride with his mom on her horse but he would cry
until he got his way and got on “his” mule and rode with
his daddy. Jacob would sit on a small pillow on top of
the front of the saddle and hold the bridle reins while
riding down the trails, crossing logs and creeks, as his
dad secured him in place. When we would stop for a
break instead of getting off and running around Jacob
would rather craw up Sunshine’s neck to play with her
big floppy ears! In the last few weeks we were lucky
enough to find Jacob a very small gaited pony which has
taken Sunshine’s place and Jacob is learning to ride by
himself now. We sold Sunshine in or around September of
2008. She went to Mississippi and has had a very happy
home. In the past 2 years she has gained some more
experience on trails (as if she needed any!), has grown
a couple inches and added about 100 lbs or so. Sunshine
lived at the family farm, while the family that owned
her lived several miles away closer town. The family
built a house on their farm and recently moved out to
it, taking along their children’s favorite pet, a dog.
Sunshine never done an ill thing toward anyone or the
dog as long as she was in the barn, or tacked up, the
dog could even run under all her feet and she would
never even acknowledge that it was there. But when
Sunshine is out in the pasture she tends to like to play
with the dog and sometimes play a little too rough.
Now, if you have never heard this is a mule/donkey
trait. They are great for keeping away coyotes, or
rebel dogs that could stir up trouble. But they make no
difference in a wild dog or coyote and the family pet.
So after the family took a vote, dad was outnumbered 3
to 1 and I took Sunshine back on trade for a horse for
dad to ride. He said he hated to give up his mule and
that she had never made a mistake but he couldn’t take a
chance on that dog getting hurt otherwise his kids and
wife would never forgive him. With that being said, we
have owned a whole lot of mules here at Adams Horse and
Mule Co. and I will have to say that I have NEVER seen a
mule like Sunshine! She is as sweet as anything you
will find (except to dogs in the pasture), she has a
very nice gait, is gentle and laid back, easy to handle
and not feet or ear shy at all. She has convinced us
that she doesn’t know she is a mule! As most mules are
hardheaded, stubborn, and often ear shy, Sunshine, is
easy going, very willing, and loves attention. You will
drive the wheels off of a new vehicle to find another
like Sunshine! Sunshine is easy to catch, clip, bath,
tack-up, load, and handle in anyway. Sunshine is very
gentle and safe for most beginners to ride and has been
trail ridden with kids on board. She will be the safest
gaited mule that you will find anywhere! Sunshine will
flatfoot walk on a loose rein or she will move on out
when asked. Sunshine has a very smooth and natural
runwalking gait where she will nod her head and flap her
ears, he can speed up to about 8mph in her Racking gait
as well. She has been shown in several gaited mule and
pleasure classes and never placed lower than 3rd
with several wins. Sunshine has had 8 months of
professional gaiting, trail and bombproof training. She
has been ridden around farm equipment, ATV’s, over large
noisy tarps and has also had guns shot off of her back.
Just like everything we say about our horses and mules,
we have the videos to prove it, make sure to take a look
at those on our website. No matter where she goes or
what she does, Sunshine doesn’t spook at anything and is
close to bombproof. On the trails she is always great!
Sunshine has been exposed to all kinds of wildlife such
as deer or turkey or other animals like cows or dogs and
will go anywhere that she is asked too. She has been
rode many miles in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and
has encountered every obstacle possible on the trail.
She will go up or down even the steepest slopes, across
deep creeks, over downed trees, and over all types of
rough terrain. She has been rode in traffic, and is very
traffic safe around cars, semi, log, and dump trucks.
She has a great personality and a great attitude about
whatever she is asked to do. Will she be your Sunshine,
your only Sunshine? Feel free to call me with any
questions.
